“Beings of the Sea, the Air, the Land”

I do not know what it feels to fly in the sea…amidst the never ending blackness of water.   I do not know what it feels to fly in the sky….amidst the never ending horizon of clouds and fog.

But on a tiny island, 30 miles out to sea, it is possible to belong to all worlds, the sea, the sky, the sand, and feel connected.   Seals follow me along the shoreline, inquisitive eyes peering for a moment above the foam………Gulls follow me along the sand, with no fear, hoping  for a crumb of lunch from picnic feasts on the sands.

I long to swim away with them…….fly away with them.   Nantucket makes it possible for my heart to breathe in the salt misted air and fill my lungs with dreams of both, though my feet are tied to the sands………
