“How Many Germs Would You Say……..”

Trader Joe’s was crowded today……you could hardly walk down the produce aisle without bumping into someone.  A woman had her toddler in the shopping cart.  She dropped a cherry on the floor.   It didn’t just drop…….it rolled…..It was like a snowball in an avalanche, building layers of germs on the move….

The woman picked it up……..looked at it…….then gave it to her toddler.   Where do I begin?   My mind wandered like that cherry across the floor…….across the filthy parking lot…….across the shoe bottoms of each of those shoppers……

Did that woman observe the 10 second rule in her house…….in a store, I think that rule should be cut off mid air……Either you catch it or that’s it…….Did she think it’s only the germs you can see that can hurt you….It still looked like a cherry, it didn’t have germy tentacles and spikes growing over it…….so I guess it was okay……..

And a cherry…….I think I started giving my kids cherries with pits when they graduated elementary school…….all right, maybe I am exaggerating a bit………But a toddler? A cherry and its pit?………Never.

I try to buy only organic cherries……even those I wash and wash to make sure they are clean.   If not organic….even more scrutiny at the sink.

Maybe that child will have the immune system of bionic woman……I sure hope so…you have to eat a pound of dirt the adage says……or a Trader Joe cherry that rolls across the floor……………..three
