Yesterday, I posted my thoughts about the Trump Baby Blimp over London.
If you support him or not…….I don’t feel this is correct….In times of war, these countries looked to us …… looked to the men who flew aircraft over to save their lives………flying this over to me is a sign of disrepect to our nation, to those who gave their lives, to our Presidency….an office which this man now holds……whether you like him or not……
And please, I don’t want political posts on how you love or hate Trump…..if you clearly read my post, you will know my intent.
You can disapprove of war, but respect the soldiers.
You can disapprove of those in office, but still hold respect for the country.
Just my thoughts…….and I dearly love England.
Once again……..this is NOT about liking or hating Trump.
I got a storm of comments…….some supportive, and then the hateful conversation amongst readers began.
One reader wrote me, and I am sincerely grateful for her words…..Thank you Shirl, for these comments. If only everyone else could have your balanced view …
I began to ponder those words…..how does one obtain a balanced view? I think it stems from childhood. I grew up the next town over from Newark NJ, during its worst riots. Tanks and Army Jeeps rolled by my block. My dad was a cop….he worked the riots each night. As a child, I sensed the pervasive fear amongst neighbors…..worrying if that mile or so stretch of calm that separated our suburban homes would soon ignite in fire.
As an adult, I came to understand how generations of frustration and oppression take their toll. But I also realized that frustration and oppression can be spoken in the right way or the wrong way. I see the anger and bullying mentality of my world today. As a kid, I was bullied…..responding bullying with bullying is no answer….those kids so frustrated with bullying today that lash out with weapons upon schoolmates are like those looters and fire igniters in the street.
I am fortunate to live in a country of free speech…..yes, you have the right to put up a Trump rooster across from the White House or dress yourself up as a vagina……..but does that right make what you do the right thing……..
I don’t have the answers…..To this day, I remember friends who turned away from me and wouldn’t give me the time of day because my skin was a different color…..I see friends become “unfriends” on social media because one says something nice or one says something ridiculing a President…….
I just feel a blimp flying overhead is not a vagina clad woman or a rooster on a patch of grass…….flying overhead represents the country….the people, the respect one gives to another country, in good times or bad.
