I watch Little House episodes every day……..there, I admit it. I even named my collie Landon.
So, when I found out a new book, approved by the Little House Heritage Trust, was published, I bought it.
Caroline is one of those books that messed with my head…..I don’t know quite how I feel about it. I could not get the imagery of Karen Grassle and Michael Landon and Victor French out of mind, hard as I tried. They were on each page, and discerning them from the real actors in this drama was impossible.
Always thinking Charles and Caroline left that little house in Kansas because of new Indian territory claims; I was surprised to learn that letters and documents cast a whole new reason for the move.
Messing up my head most of all were the sex scenes between Charles and Caroline…….this might send a few of you running to the Amazon page………
They weren’t explicitly graphic, but what should surely have remained in the head of Caroline, not poured onto pages, whether 1800’s or 2018……..That being said, this is a personal account of her life and it is told very well. I can’t imagine going through what she and other pioneer women did, even for the likes of Charles Ingalls.
I warn you, you will understand what these brave women endured, but her story will stay in your head……..messing it up as my writing eloquence conveys………. :-).
However you feel about the book, I can assure it will carve out a niche in your mind like the wheels of the Ingalls’ wagon across the prairie. How long it will take for the grass to cover up the tracks will depend on each reader.
