I take some issue with the Royal Sermon today. Yes, it was powerful, but the right place for such a speech…..I question. Judging from the reaction of the guests, I think some would agree.
His speech spoke of love……how fire was a great gift to man…..it cooked our food, heated our homes, runs our engines……and without it, there would have been no progress, no Bronze, no Iron, no modern age. Love he felt is a great gift to man….love must be our next great invention, though no stranger to man.
Fire has indeed been a gift to man…..but the fire of man’s zealousness has used it for evil as well as good. He spoke of God’s love……..but God did banish his beloved Angel to the fire, did he not? Have not the pyres of flames burned saints and martyrs and innocent men and women accused of misunderstood gifts. Have not the flames of ovens almost brought an entire race of people to extinction from the earth……..have not the flames of powerful energy of bombs and missiles brought death and destruction upon mankind.
Love is a passionate flame……..but it is not the fire of passion that burns slow and steady…..it is the glow of kindness, of compassion, understanding, and acceptance that glows continuously in the darkness…….the glow that keeps a couple together.
I would have preferred a softer, more compassionate speech of kindness, in celebration of two passionate lovers uniting as one……. because the flame must burn slowly and steadily or its blaze will be quickly extinguished……….
May the couple’s hearts glow with an inextinguishable brightness and may their charitable work cast a glow upon our world.
Blessings Harry and Meghan.
