“Stars of Tears”

August 10th is the Feast day of San Lorenzo. Each year,  around August 10th, the darkness brings the “night of falling stars.”   One can scan the night sky and see a shower of falling stars, thought to be fragments of an ancient comet that passes each year at this time.   The devout believe these falling stars  are the tears of San Lorenzo.

San Lorenzo is thought to have been asked by a Roman Prefect to bring him the treasures of the Church.   San Lorenzo did…….not money, but all the poor and sick of the city.  For this, San Lorenzo died a horrible death…..all the way joking and smiling to his persecutors.

Our earth is dark with sorrow but too bright in the night sky to see many falling stars anymore.   Light pollution has robbed our eyes from the magic of the night.

Perhaps all the Saints and Angels weep.

Perhaps they wish we open our eyes as brightly as the man made lights that obliterate far too many dark places on our earth…….places once home to so many beings now endangered by man…….places where many who have lost their homelands now suffer and perish.  They are earth’s treasures, are they not?

I image San Lorenzo is weeping quite a bit this year for us on earth……..<3  If you are lucky enough to see a falling star this month…….make a wish for earth and all who call it home.
