I have been pondering commercials lately ………. pondering the messages conveyed.
Take for instance this current new car commercial……the dad and young son wait in their new car at the intersection for the morning school bus. Then the race ensues. As usual, the new car “beats” the school bus, and the school bus driver grimaces at the smiling dad……..
Is there value in this ad, logic, intelligence………having a school bus driver go as quickly as possible through intersections when a challenger swiftly rides in a sleek, new car to see who makes it to their destination first…????
If someone finds it, please let me know.
Then, there is the new “app”………where you can sell anything you no longer need. There is the mother, again sitting in her car, *must be a Madison Avenue sales technique..……..
She is holding up a pair of expensive, name brand boots……in purple for a young girl. She says “now I can get rid of these boots, my daughter won’t wear because they are not the same color as her best friend’s. Then a bundle of cash appears in the air before her eyes.
??????????? You purchase a pricey pair of boots for your child……..(something my children were not privy too…..) and then, she refuses to wear them because the shade of purple is off………And you smile about it?????????
Something is off here, besides the shade of purple……..maybe Madison Avenue has gotten too far removed from the back roads of America…….maybe all those spoiled children of the past decade have now taken over the advertising seats and their minds work a bit differently than the logic of my dinosaur era brain. Incidentally, my purple boots, not name brand…….gotten for a song at a well known fashion store chain 🙂 They have been pee’d on by several dogs at charity events at which I volunteered; they seem very drawn to this particular shade….
Your thoughts are welcome, as always……..
