“A Feminist Before her Time” (Every woman should know her name)

Mary Katharine Goddard……….do you recognize her name?

Every woman should.  She published the original version of the Declaration of Independence, with all signatures….and it says so on the document……“printed by Mary Katherine Goddard.”

Mary printed the revolutionary Maryland Journal, until a postmaster decided the job involved too much traveling for a woman.

A petition was raised to support Mary…………230 signatures demanded she be placed back in her role.

They lost……..Mary was given the role of running the bookstore attached to the printing shop she had so masterfully run………..

When Mary died, she left all her possessions to her black maid and companion.  She lived her life a true visionary, and in death, saw her visionary requests were fulfilled.

Celebrating the life of a true heroine………born on this day in 1738.
