I don’t watch a lot of TV, and most times, the channel doesn’t move from PBS.
One series that pushes the bar of excellence each week is “Call the Midwife.” Its reality is more provoking than seeing 10 bachelorettes vy for a ring.
Last, night was a little heartbreaking, especially for Easter night. But that was the point…..the message of Easter……of life and rebirth……of the imprisonment of living in the darkness of one’s own hell until you are “alive again.”
An important character died last night….grasping onto an unsteady wooden beam at the ceiling and falling to his death……perhaps a metaphor for the wooden beam carried by a man on the Via Dolorosa.
Running parallel to this story line, was the tale of a Jewish family. The matriarch, imprisoned in her home for 12 years, partly out of guilt for fleeing with her young child and leaving her family and friends behind to perish during the war. She hid in a dark basement; and that dark basement in her mind kept her still a prisoner even though the doorway to light stood just feet away.
Easter is light coming from the darkness………a rock rolled away and the Light of the World emerging………perhaps that is what the writers had in mind…….
