“You Don’t Take a Photograph”

Remembering Ansel Adams, born on this day, in 1902

You don’t take a photograph, you make it ~~ Ansel Adams

I believe this quote.  I recently joined an art committee, a group of local painters.  I paint too;  so, I was invited to join.

When the subject of a “fine art show” was discussed, one of the members voiced the opinion that photography is not fine art.  My photos were on a lower plane.

I don’t think so.  I don’t think a good photographer takes a photo.  He makes one.  He sees the emotion, the subtle shadows or messages that many might miss.

Like a painting, it is composed the same way……in the artist’s mind.  I believe photography is an art.  Most photographers aspire to be within grasp of that plane of excellence Ansel trod each day.

Here are a couple of my photographs taken last weekend……..vigil in the snowDivine Light
