“Sorry, We’re Closed”

Less than two weeks ago, I sat proudly in the seats of a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient Concert on the Gettysburg Battlefield. Fireworks lit up the sky, cannon salute filled the air, and heroes who walked or sat in wheelchairs were given a well deserved night of recognition.
Now, I wonder if that concert had been scheduled just a little later in the season…….perhaps October 1st.
What would this country have told them…..sorry, we’re closed.
For you see the Gettysburg Battlefield Park is closed…..
I wonder about all those families with plans and places to stay and RV’s rented…do they call the innkeepers or RV lot owners and say, “Sorry, they’re closed?
Or about the young couple planning to wed in the Grand Canyon…sorry, it’s closed.
Today, a young hero in my home state of NJ gets buried; he was shot in Afghanistan. Sadly, in that area in the world, one needs to be aware that those who present themselves as allies, could sometimes be enemies, in disguise.
Is Washington a place of caring representatives who place the needs of this country above all….or is it a place of politics and hidden agendas…..
I wonder what all those men and women whose lives are in jeopardy today wonder about our government shut down…and what all those allies and enemies think of our nation this morning.
Namaste,
Shirl
