“Visiting Old Friends”

WolfI used to be a Zoo Docent. Today, I went back to visit some old friends.
The wolves. There is a wonderful enclosure provided for them at the zoo; no, not as great as the wild, but carefully planned to provide for them as best as captivity allows. I loved being around them as a Docent; especially in the early morning, when they would gather and howl to greet the day.
Today, they were too lazy to howl, mostly sleeping in the sun on this beautiful fall like day.
Things haven’t changed much at the zoo in terms of visitor education; sadly, I overheard a lot of misconceptions about these mistakenly maligned beings. Most told their children they were killers …….
The wolf kills to survive, to provide for his pack……can we say the same for man?
It seems so much more education is needed to conquer the prejudice taught against these magnificent creatures….the ancestors of all the loving dogs that sleep by our sides at night.
