“Everests of Life”

As I write this blog, two octogenarians are racing up Mount Everest. Yes, that is the correct meaning of the word….someone in his eighties.
Makes me feel so ashamed of the nap I took this afternoon because of my cold.
One climber has a hearing aid; my ears pop when I walk up my street’s hill.
One climber has had four heart surgeries. Would I be climbing Everest if I had four heart surgeries….I can almost say for certain, no……..
And maybe that is what makes certain people so special. In spite of the heart surgeries, in spite of the piles of twigs that used to be their homes, in spite of the insurmountable odds……they rise above. They climb the heights.
Maybe 29,000 feet……..maybe putting that first plank of wood back in a new home’s frame.
One climber is Nepalese, one is from Japan…no matter who reaches the summit first, they have done both countries proud.
As our Oklahoma citizens have done for the USA…..
Stay strong, all you climbers……..no trek worthy of Everest is easy.
