“A Song of Love”

Mention the legend of Valentine’s Day, and most thoughts will be of St. Valentine…..
Some say he died for love……
Some say he died so others could love, performing forbidden marriages in ancient Rome.
A martyr’s death has become the symbol of love everlasting…..

I think fondly on a lesser known legend, with origins in England and France during the Middle Ages.
February 14th was believed to be the day the birds first sought out mates for the coming spring. Courtships and nest building took time and nurturing…February infatuations soon blossomed into springtime loves…..

Nowadays, Valentine’s day has become a big commercial event…..everyone from school age children to teachers, to grandmas and mothers, get Valentines….
Who among us hasn’t watched Charlie Brown walk that lonely path to an empty mailbox on Valentine’s Day…..
It is the day we nurture all the loves in our own and in our extended families.

Wishing everyone a full mailbox today…..even a little boy hoping for a card from a red haired girl……..
