“A Hole in Their Hearts” (Treasures in the Leaves)

Don’t only search the sky to see the soaring wings of stone angels in the cemetery; some of the most poignant treasures lay hidden among the leaves.

I search them out; they are my treasures…….

The broken fragments of lives, the decaying flowers of withered bouquets; these, to me, symbolize so much.

I like to capture what I feel in the lens of my camera…….what speaks to my heart in the leaves and what might speak to you from my photograph.

I saw them laying in the grass and leaves and dirt.

Shattered, with a hole in their hearts……..

Like hearts left behind, like those trying to fill holes in their hearts with something………

Man has searched for what fills the hole in his heart since the days of gathering around cave fires in awe and wonder.

Animals still gather around their own sacred fires in nature….

Chimpanzees throw stones in offering at waterfalls; it is their version of worship.

Pigs have been seen singing to the moon on clear nights…….

Whatever it is……..Jesus, or a Stone Circle on the plains of England…..humans must find something to fill their hearts.

Sadly, a lot of our hearts are gaping wider these days…….

Science explains the awe of fire for some, corruption cools the fire of religious devotions for others….

But the human spirit continues its quest……it must.

There is an unextinguishable flame from our souls……….

Namaste,

Shirl
