Today is Sting’s birthday…..61 years old today.
I don’t fawn over many celebrities, but I have always been a fan of Sting.
Maybe it’s the writer in me, drawn to the poetic lyrics of a former English professor…..I admit, looking at Sting, there could be other reasons……:-)
His song “Don’t Stand so Close to Me,” was written as a reminder to keep a young teacher’s emotions in check next to so many pretty, young high school girls in his class.
Which segues into my next paragraph nicely…….
My husband and I were standing in the corridor of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in NYC. His back was to the wall; I was facing him, engaged in some conversation about plans or such for the evening.
All of a sudden, I sensed someone running around the corner. Next thing I knew, someone had grabbed both arms around me.
Now, I am a Jersey girl, an Italian Jersey girl…….we have our space. We don’t like anyone to invade that space…..let alone touch that space.
I started to turn around and express my opinion about this topic, when, by the Grace of God, I glanced up at my husband’s face.
His eyes were about the size of one of those Roswell Alien posters……
I knew something was up……..
I adjusted my attitude, slowly rotated my head and saw a smiling face peering into mine……arms still around me.
Apparently, he had been racing around the corner and could not avoid our collision so grabbed hold onto me instead…….
You must have surmised by now, this was Sting……..
Gordon Sumner……..you can Stand Close to Me any day of the week.
Enjoy one of my favorites…..it says everything about the work I do in this material world
