My daughter lived in an apartment many years that borderlined a cemetery and golf course. There is a feral cat community there and apartment dwellers leave food (although the complex) strongly warns against it. I often browsed the dented carts in the supermarket and purchased all the dented cat food tins and ripped cereal bags to stockpile food to help supplement purrfect purchases.
She grew to have favorites, one slept under her car every night to keep warm….she always made sure he was safe before she started her engine. Some would come with ragged ears, torn in scuffles, some would disappear for weeks and then reemerge in the night shadows. But all knew the feeding times and locations; a little comfort in lives filled with harshness.
My daughter closed on her first home yesterday…….more than an hour away in a quiet spot next to a protected wildlife preserve. They went last night to check on the home, went into the kitchen and………..
There, at the back door, stood a beautiful Torti and a Grey and White visitor…….Maybe they were the Welcome Wagon………
Evidently, the elderly lady who sold her home had some dinner guests of her own. Back to the dented cart at the grocery store………..:-)
Animals will find you……….they couldn’t have lucked out more than to have my daughter as their new neighbor…….I know there will be plates set out on her deck.
You never know who’s lookin’ in your back door, the first time you look out………..:-)
