What to eat is a dilemma these days, humane cage free, free range, no meat at all; these questions we face each day, as we decide for ourselves which food should grace our dinner table.
With my work as an Intuitive and Reiki Master, I have taught workshops in animal spirits and totems. The most fascinating thing about totems is sometimes who walks beside you can play a major influence on what your body requires. If you have a grazing animal as your spirit companion, such as a horse or deer, then your body will be drawn to cereals and grains. If you walk beside a strong wolf, your body might crave meat as nourishment as well. Sound ludicrous? Well, maybe, until you have talked to a number of people who confirm this makes sense in their lives. Friends of mine who reach for a granola bar instead of a hamburger acknowledge their totem animals would do the same.
One thing is for certain, we could all use a little more grace with our meals. A Blessing at each meal, thankfulness to the trees who bore fruit, to the plants who gave harvest, to the life who gave up life…..that is a good thing to teach children. My little nephew always said Grace, whether before a Ritz cracker or before a Thanksgiving meal. He went missing several years ago; I think of him often, and how he would bow his head and thank God before each meal. His mother taught him this; this is something we should all teach ourselves to do or do again. I wonder if he still continues to do this, wherever he sits before a table. I hope the table is plentiful and he is happy.
Whatever you eat, say a moment to thank God, Mother Earth, or the plant or animal who gave their energy to give you yours……..
