Always Tie your Tree and Other Tips………

Christmas, only a few days away, and I haven’t even put a dent in holiday decorating and baking.

We got a big tree again…….we haven’t had a big one in years….this year heralds our first grandchild; a big tree seemed fitting for the occasion.

Trees and I spell calamities…….

One of the first Christmases in our home, we had a beautiful, big tree….festooned with resin woodland creatures from Winterthur catalog……..foxes, and chipmunks, and squirrels…….

Trees and pets don’t mix well…….when you hear a big crash in the room, expect a calamity……..Our tree had fallen, my woodland creatures were armless, legless, tailless……..

But, glue fixed all, and from then on, we tied the tree to a hook in the ceiling……a good tip for all to learn.

Then, there was the Christmas I hung fresh gingerbread cookies on the tree.

Calamity #2………it is amazing how many gingerbread cookies two little toy poodles can eat …….the low hanging ones were gone, the higher branches were left legless and armless again……….

So, years pass………we have a big tree again……..children grown, wisdom of time……Right?

Wrong…….

Calamity # 3………….we purchase the tree on a freezing night…….take it to our Jeep…….

My husband rolls down the back flap to put the tree in the back and I hear a loud CRACK………

The plastic window flap had cracked open on both sides……..

At least, we have a good Christmas gift for him this year ……….

Like I say…..me and Christmas trees spell calamity………

Namaste,

Shirl
