Inseparable Companions

I am convinced that some days the planets and the stars align in the heavens in such a way that bring disruption and sadness to our lives.

Yesterday was such a day.

It ended on an extremely heartbreaking note.

I learned of the death of Bella, Tarra’s faithful, loving companion at the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee.

I will include the link to the Sanctuary if you don’t know the story.  Those who love elephants will share my heartache in learning this.

Tarra and Bella were as close as any two human friends…..sharing happy days and sharing concern when one faced times that weren’t so auspicious.

It seems Bella died from unpleasant circumstances, and Tarra carried her back home in her trunk.

In the quiet of night, she stood guard,  grieving over Bella as elephants do, before the Sanctuary workers found them.

Elephants do grieve, perhaps matching the grief humans feel….I believe they do match our grief, I believe their minds and hearts laugh and weep just as deeply as ours.

In the end, isn’t that all our human hearts want…..a loving friend to walk beside us in life.

Someone to weep and grieve for us and carry us home at the end.

There is another  dog star beside Sirius in the sky over Tennessee tonight.

A faithful friend watches over a grieving elephant…….
